Cádiz has often been described as one of Andalusia’s best-kept secrets. Capital of the province, it has some 3000 years of history; in fact it is the oldest city on record in Western Europe.
But what really makes Cádiz is the locals, called Gaditanos, they are amongst the warmest, friendliest people you will have the pleasure of meeting and they certainly know how to have fun. The annual Cádiz Carnival, which takes place in February, is probably one of Spain’s craziest carnivals; street parades, local musician in the side streets and the craziest costumes you can imagine.
