Natural pools are an extremely unique phenomenon here in Madrid. Since the pools offer complete tranquility without the city noise, they are located far away from the city center, requiring a lengthy commute.But it’s incredibly worth it! The water in these pools is even filtered from the natural lakes and rivers. If you want to truly escape the city and surround yourself with nature, pack a picnic and make a day of it!

1. Las Berceas in Cercedilla


In the center of Cercedilla, you can relax at the Las Berceas Natural Pools. These pools were made by water and time, and they sit calmly among big rocks. The water is cool and peaceful, like it has been that way for many years.

Distance: Approximately 60 kilometers from Madrid.
Public Transport: Take the Cercanías C-9 train to Cercedilla, then enjoy a 20-minute walk to Las Berceas.


2. Pozas de Canencia


In the middle of Canencia, you’ll find the Pozas de Canencia, where nature shows its beauty. These pools look like secret caves and ask you to go in and enjoy the cool water while the sun shines through the trees above.

Distance: Approximately 80 kilometers from Madrid.
Public Transport: Catch the 195 bus from Plaza Castilla to Canencia. The natural pools are within walking distance.

3. Riosequillo


In the peaceful beauty of Buitrago de Lozoya, you can find the Riosequillo Natural Pools. They’re inviting and refreshing. These pools are surrounded by rocks from nature and provide a relaxing and pretty getaway.

Distance: About 75 kilometers from Madrid.
Public Transport: Board the 191 bus from Plaza Castilla to Buitrago de Lozoya. From there, it’s a short walk to the pools.

4. Laguna Grande de Peñalara


Sitting in Peñalara Natural Park is the grand lagoon of Peñalara that calls to adventurers. These pools were made by glaciers and are in between big rocks. The cold water feels nice against the warm land around them.

Distance: About 90 kilometers from Madrid.
Public Transport: Take the Cercanías C-9 train to Cotos, and then hike for approximately 3 kilometers to reach Pozas de Peñalara.

5. Las Presillas in Rascafría


Tucked in the green beauty of Rascafría, you’ll find the Las Presillas Natural Pools. These pools have super clear water that looks like precious gems, just waiting for you. The leaves rustle in the breeze and the river nearby makes a soft sound, creating a peaceful natural melody.

Distance: Approximately 90 kilometers from Madrid.
Public Transport: Take the Cercanías C-9 train to Cercedilla, then transfer to the 684 bus to Rascafría. A short walk will lead you to the pools.

6. Puente de Batán


Come to a calm and peaceful place right outside the busy city. The Puente de Batán Natural Pools have soft sandy edges and clear, sparkling water. When the sun shines on the water, it feels like all your worries go away, and you can relax with the gentle sounds of nature.

Distance: About 10 kilometers from Madrid.
Public Transport: From Plaza Castilla, take the 191 bus to Tres Cantos. From Tres Cantos, take the 723 bus to Batán. The pools are a short stroll away.

  • Me and my friends did the Cercedilla pool, thanks for the lead! Took the bus up to the pool instead of the hiking, though 🙂
