First impressions matter. Unfortunately, 2020 did not care and decided to lock up a fair portion of mankind in quarantine. However, not all is bad. Staying inside simply is the best thing to do at this moment. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to entertain yourself without leaving the house. Obviously, I’m not referring to playing Monopoly with your family (although it may have similar outbursts of rage), I’m talking about console games!

In this article, some popular Playstation 4 (PS4), XboxOne, Nintendo, PC, and smartphone games will be listed so that you and friends can level-up until Corona is just a Mexican pale lager again.

PlayStation 4

The PS4 remains a console for which a seemingly infinite amount of games are available. The following games are all available for download from the PlayStation store. If you have a PS4 with PlayStation Plus, you’re in for a treat. The subscription allows you to play selected games for free. This month (March 2020), the free options are:

Shadow of the Colossus PS4

In this action-adventure, you play as a boy whose goal is to defeat multiple colossi, 16 in total. This version is a remake, and is an absolute cult-classic. If you’re looking for exciting gameplay with a breathtaking world to explore, this is a game for you. More info

Sonic Forces

Celebrating the new Sonic movie, PS4 decided to release Sonic Forces for free in March. The game features classic 2D gameplay and modern 3D. It includes all your favorite Sonic characters and has a tag-team option where you can play with a friend. More info

Call of Duty Modern Warfare (PS4, Xbox One, Windows)

This is the 16th edition of the Call of Duty series and can be bought from the PlayStation Store for € 45,49. Besides the single player campaign mode, the game has a Special Ops mode, which is a multiplayer setting. Additionally, the game features a battle royale game mode titled ‘Call of Duty: Warzone’. This game mode allows you to play online with up to 150 players and available for PlayStation plus and Xbox Live members. Furthermore, on PC the battle royale mode is offered for free. More info

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege (PS4, Xbox One, Windows)

This tactical shooter game requires players to complete various mission, described in the game as ‘situations’. The game heavily emphasizes environmental destruction and cooperation between players in multiplayer mode. The game is available on the PlayStation Store for € 29,99. More info


Xbox also does not let you down this month, especially if you’re an Xbox Live Gold member. Many games these days are released on both Xbox and PlayStation anyway, however, here are a few that you can get for free exclusively with Xbox in March.

Batman: The enemy within (Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, PC, Smartphone)

Fight a new threat as the Dark Knight in this point-and-click graphic adventure game. The game will be available for free for Live Gold members from the 1st of March. More info

Shantae: Half-Genie Hero (Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, Windows, Wii U)

This is a platform game that might just make you forget about the passage of time. The gameplay is kept simple, making this an ideal game for all ages. This game will be available for free for Live Gold members on the 16th of March. More info

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 (Xbox 360, PS3, Windows)

If you have Xbox Live Gold, this game offers a completely different vibe than the previous two. In this classic goth action game, you play as a weakened version of Dracula who is on a mission to defeat Satan. The game take place in a mashup between the modern and medieval world. NOTE: this game is available for Xbox One as well, via Backward Compatibility. More info

Sonic Generations (Xbox 360, PS3, Windows, Nintendo 3DS)

A true classic among console games. From the gameplay to the graphics, this one will feel familiar and will distract you from whatever is going on outside. Play as Sonic to collect rings and complete levels. No better way to spend the day than with a game that brings back nostalgic feelings of your mom not letting you finish the level you’d been working on for hours, because dinner was ready. Let’s be honest, there’s something about Nintendo games that just makes you forget about time. With the Nintendo Switch, many of Nintendo’s classic console games came with new features, including more extensive online and multiplayer options. Here are a couple of games for the Nintendo Switch that could help you fulfil your life long dream of becoming the greatest Pokémon trainer in the world. Or you could organize a virtual party with minigames from Super Mario Party.

Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield

This game is perfect for those looking for some classic escapism! Enter the world of Animal Crossing, where you cna build a community from the group up. Make friends, build your own home, explore the community and join various adventures around your own personal world. We couldn’t finish our list without at least mentioning the following games. Most are console games that be played across Xbox, PS4 and your computer. Some are just absolute legends and should be tested by anyone looking to get into gaming.

PUBG (PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds)

This battle royale-type online multiplayer game is definitely going to have you and your friends entertained for a while. With many places to explore and constant action, this game will help you get through quarantine like it never happened. This game is avaialble for PS4, Xbox and PC. More info

The Sims

The Sims franchise doesn’t hold the title for highest selling game of all time for nothing. If you need to get completely lost in a virtual world that is completely in control, then dive in to the Sims! Whether you want to play the older Sims and Sims 2 or explore the more modern Sims 3 and 4, they are all available to play and explore on your PC. The Sims 4 is currently on sale for a whopping 75% on the games host site, Origin, with its expansion packs on sale as well. More info

Another amazing battle-royale type game. Fortnite became very popular not that long ago. Luckily, many people are still actively playing on the servers. This online multiplayer game allows for you and your friends to team up, or battle against each other. Don’t forget to learn the dance moves while you’re at it. More info
