Are you from outside of the European Union (Non-EU citizen) looking to get all your legal documents sorted out to live, study or work in Madrid? Take a look at this article where we outline all you need to know about the TIE, Empadronamiento. In very few cases you will need to get your Social Security Number.

You will stay in Spain LESS than 6 months and you will either study or do an unpaid internship? These are the documents you need:

  • Lucky you, no further paperwork required. Your visa is sufficient in this case.

You will stay in Spain LESS than 6 months and you will either work or do a paid internship? These are the documents you need:

  • Empadronamiento: This official document will make you a citizen of the city in which you reside.
  • TIE: You will need to apply for the TIE within 1 month upon arrival in Spain!
  • Social Security Number (“número de afiliación”)
